Queens of the Mountain: Nightmares Win Battle of West Hills

The 12-U Nightmares returned to the tournament circuit at the USSSA Battle of West Hills this weekend in Clinton/Oakdale, PA. In this 12-U Open tournament, the girls faced some tough competition from a mixture of A and B class teams, in the end the Nightmare prevailed and seized their first championship of the season.

In pool play, the team opened with an 11-5 victory over host team West Hills. After this victory, the girls suffered their only loss of the weekend to the Pittsburgh Lady Bulldogs 12u Black 8-4. From that point on the Nightmares did not look back, posting a 7-4 victory over the Pennsylvania Cardinals and an 11-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Spirit 11u Futures. The Nightmares finished a close second to the Pittsburgh Lady Bulldogs 12u Black for the top seed. The girls went 3-1, missing the coveted top position by .25 runs allowed.

On Sunday, the Nightmares took no prisoners on their way to the championship. They opened tournament play with a 10-4 victory over Aftershock 12u. From there, they defeated West Hills 6-1 and avenged their only loss with an impressive 12-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Lady Bulldogs 12u Black.

In all, the girls finished the tournament with the best scoring offense (8.7 runs per game) and run differential (5 runs per game).
