The 14-U Nightmares returned to the tournament circuit on Friday July 1 at the USSSA Dave Barnhart Memorial in Murrysville, PA and came out swinging. After a shaky start and an hour rain delay, the girls got rolling knocking off the Lady Canes 11-4 to open pool play. Pitchers Madison Shreck and Lauren Sperry combined to two-hit the Canes. Olivia Goodwin (3-for-3, 2 runs, 1 RBI), Emma Bliss (2-for-3, 1 Run, 2 RBI), Lauren Sperry (1-for-2, 2 Runs, 2 RBI), and Abby Vance (1-for-3, 1 Run, 3 RBI) led the charge. Savannah Raymond and Madison Wheeler also collected multiple hits in the victory.

On day two of pool play, the Nightmares continued to shine by opening the day with a 10-5 victory over the North Hills Warpath. Lauren Sperry led the way with a solid pitching outing going six strong innings for the victory. Kaelyn Dewar (3-for-3, 1 RBI), Lauren Sperry (2-for-3, 2 Runs), Kaitlyn Adams (2-for-3, 3 RBI), and Jolene Mihalko (2-for-2, 1 Run, 1 RBI) led the offensive outburst. In the second game, the Nightmares came back to Earth with a 13-1 loss to the Armstrong Force. Offensively, the bats were quiet, mustering only three hits in the defeat.

In the final pool play game, the girls got back on track with an 11-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Phantoms. Again, Lauren Sperry was the catalyst, pitching four innings of four-hit ball. Offensively, every member of the Nightmares notched at least one hit in the win and eight girls recording at least one RBI. Ariel Lacey (1-for-1) and Lauren Sperry (1-for-1) scored two runs, while Kaelyn Dewar (1-for-3), Jolene Mihalko (1-for-3), and Madison Wheeler (1-for-2) all knocked in two runs.

On tournament day, the Nightmares and Thunder got together in one of the most competitive games in the event. The girls jumped out early behind a Kaelyn Dewar two-run home run and came back late to tie the game at 5 with a two-run double by Madison Shreck, but came up short with a 6-5 loss in the quarterfinals. The Nightmares are now off until the USSSA Summer Showdown July 15-17, 2016.
