After an uneven opening tournament in the USSSA Memorial Day Super NIT, the 14-U Nightmares jumped back into action at the NSA North Fayette Open in Oakdale, PA from June 4-5. With a solid mix of both A and B teams on hand, this tournament proved challenging for the young Nightmares.

Opening the tournament against the Pittsburgh Predators (Troutman), the Nightmares got off to a rocky start with a 10-2 loss. Catcher Kaelyn Dewar paced the five hit attack going 1-for-2 with 1 run and 1 RBI. Emma Bliss, Savannah Raymond, Lauren Sperry, and Jolene Mihalko also notched hits in the contest, with Olivia Goodwin scoring the final run on a passed ball. After battling the Predators, the Nightmares faced their second consecutive A-team, battling the Pittsburgh Lady Bulldogs (Black) in an entertaining yet frustrating 7-3 loss. Madison Shreck (1-for-2) and Lauren Sperry (1-for-2, 3 RBI) paced the Nightmares offensively.

The Nightmares finally broke through with a victory in a 3-0 shutout over West Hills. Pitcher Sydney Petrowski went the distance, striking out 8 and walking 2 in the 2-hit shutout, her first of the season. Offensively, Petrowski (2-for-2) and Lauren Sperry (2-for-2, 1 RBI) each notched two hits. Jolene Mihalko (1-for-2, 2 RBI) chipped in with a two-run double to finish the scoring. Madison Shreck, Madison Wheeler, and Olivia Goodwin each tallied a hit in the victory.

Unfortunately, the Nightmares could not keep the momentum flowing, falling in their third A-team match-up of the day 7-3 against Extreme Power. Emma Bliss paced the offense going 2-for-2. Abby Vance (1-for-1, 1 run, 1 RBI) and Reganne Anderson (1-for-2, 2 RBI) knocked the Nightmares three runs, while Jolene Mihalko (1-for-1, 1 walk) slugged the only extra-base hit with her second double of the weekend.

In tournament play on Sunday, the girls came to play and had one of their best performances of the season in a 3-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Predators (Troutman). Pitcher Sydney Petrowski through five innings of one-run ball in relief of starter Madison Shreck, as the team clawed to stay within one-run all morning. Savannah Raymond (2-for-2, 1 run) paced the team offensively scoring their lone run. Kaelyn Dewar, Emma Bliss, Kaitlyn Adams, and Madison Shreck all notched hits in the match-up.
